The WPA invites you to get to know Katie Kopp! She is a traveling poker dealer and player that had an amazing history making summer! Not only did she win the first bracelet awarded during the 2022 WSOP, but she also became the Bally’s (rebranding to Horseshoe) First-Ever Bracelet Winner!

1. What is your name? Kate Kopp (Katie)

2. Where are you from? Cleveland, Ohio

3. How did you get introduced to the game of poker? My grandpa taught me as a kid then I got really into it after my brother and sister started playing. We always played home games. We used to stay up all night playing as kids.

4. Tell us about an unusual or unique experience that you’ve had while playing poker. One time the bad beat jackpot got hit while I walked away from the table for a few minutes. It was in PLO and wasn’t that big, but still funny that I missed it.

5. How would you describe your poker style/play? Any specific poker experience you are most proud of? What is your favorite poker game to play and why? I would say I usually play tight aggressive depending on how the game is. I like Holdem and PLO but Holdem more because I feel more in control.

6. What were some of the unexpected hurdles that you have experienced in poker? How are you overcoming those? I have had to overcome big downswings. I didn’t give up.

7. Who is the most difficult player that you have ever competed against?  How was that experience? My brother and sister…..they used to take my paychecks from Wendy’s when I was a teenager!

8. Looking back at where you were when you started your poker journey; how has your game evolved and what are your poker goals going forward? I plan to keep studying and improving my game. When I first started I had no idea what I was doing, but I thought I did. Now that I have been playing seriously for 8 years I can recognize that.

9. What is your favorite hobby or passion outside of poker? I love spending time with my family. We like to play video games.

10. What are your plans for poker in the future, if any at all?  I have been playing poker for a long time and I plan to keep playing. Usually I play cash but I have been getting more into tournaments recently. I will be playing the Ladies Event and Main Event for sure!
